Dr Petros Roussos is associate professor of cognitive psychology, Director of the Graduate Program in Cyberpsychology and Director of the Experimental Psychology Laboratory (NKUA).
He graduated in psychology from NKUA (1988) and did his PhD at the University of Leeds, UK (1992). Since 1994 he has taught cognitive psychology, research methods and statistics in psychology at numerous universities, colleges and higher education institutions. Before joining the Psychology Department at the University of Athens in 2007 as Lecturer of Cognitive Psychology, he served as adjunct research fellow of the Hellenic Pedagogical Institute (1998-2000), as Psychology Department Chair at the University of Indianapolis Athens Campus (2000-2004), as Researcher at the Unit of Analysis and Documentation at the Greek Ministry of Employment and Social Protection (2004-2005), and as Lecturer of Cognitive Psychology at the University of the Aegean (2005-2007).
His main research interests are in applications of ICT in Education, Human-Computer Interaction with emphasis on teaching and learning, effects of computer use on children’s cognitive abilities, Internet addiction, and statistical reasoning. He has supervised numerous graduate and doctoral students, and during the last years he has participated as an evaluator of research proposals in many national and European calls. Since 1998 he has been involved in 19 national and European research projects (in 8 of them as coordinator). In these projects he participated as an expert in human-computer interaction and in statistical processing of research data. He has served as a member of the Scientific-Educational Council of the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (2015-2019).
He is the author of 5 books in statistics and in cognitive psychology, and over 60 papers in scientific journals, chapters in edited books and conference proceedings. He is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society, a member of the Hellenic Psychological Society, and Treasurer of the Hellenic Cognitive Science Society.
