The Department of Psychology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was established in 2013. It actually evolved from the reorganisation and development of the Psychology Program of the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology, which had been successfully running for twenty years (1993-2013). 

Studying at the Department of Psychology offers a batchelor’s degree in Psychology after successful completion of at least eight semesters. Holders of a degree of Psychology may obtain a license to practice in the field of psychology (according to laws 991/1979, 2646/1998, and 3919/2011). They may also pursue their studies at postgraduate level. The Department of Psychology currently implements two prostgaduate programs of studies, namely in School Psychology and in Clinical Psychology. Furthermore, it contributes in prostgraduate programs organized by other departments in Greece and abroad. 

The main goal of the Department of Psychology is to train psychologists who will be able to work in the areas of teaching, research, and applications of Psychology. Moreover, the Department of Psychology has the following aims: (a) to promote research, teaching and practice of the science of Psychology, (b) to disseminate and use evidence-based knowledge of Psychology, and (c) to provide psychological training to students of other departments of the School of Philosophy and other Schools of the University of Athens.

A primary concern of the Department of Psychology is the sound theoretical, research and applied training of its students. This is achieved by providing general as well as specialized knowledge, by training the students in scientific methodology and assessment, and through the practice internship during their last year of studies.
