Alexandra Economou is Professor of Neuropsychology. She received her doctoral degree from the City University of New York, Graduate Center, USA (1998). She has been teaching at the Department of Psychology since 2000 (as appointed faculty member since 2004) both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required and elective courses in Neuropsychology and related areas. She is also supervisor of senior theses, postgraduate theses, and dissertations in her area of specialization and is director of the Laboratory of Psychometrics “I. N. Paraskevopoulos” of the Department of Psychology since 2020.
Her research areas and publications center on the evaluation of neuropsychological functions of healthy older persons and persons with neurodegenerative diseases, the evaluation of driving behavior on a driving simulator of healthy persons and persons with neurological disorders, the study of acquired language disorders, and applications of ICT in the training and evaluation of cognitive functions of preschool and school-age children. Her publications include over 50 articles in scientific journals, three psychometric tests that are standardized in the Greek population, eight book chapters and 11 articles in conference proceedings. She has been a presenter in over 50 international conferences and in over 20 scientific meetings as invited speaker. She has participated in 11 funded research projects, in three of which as group leader. She represents the Department of Psychology in the Committee for Research and Administration of the Special Account for Research (ELKE) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and is a registered evaluator of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation. She is associate editor of international scientific journals and is currently associate editor of the journal Psychology of the Hellenic Psychological Society.
