FOTINI POLYCHRONI

Fotini Polychroni is a Professor in Educational Psychology. She studied Psychology at the University of Athens and continued her postgraduate studies at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom where she received a Masters degree in educational psychology and special educational needs and a Ph.D. in educational psychology. She is a licensed psychologist and she has worked as a research assistant at the University of Manchester and the Cheshire Local Education Authority. For seven years she has worked as a psychologist at the counselling centre of the Municipality of Athens.

From 2007 she has served as lecturer at the Department of Philosophy, Paedagogigs and Psychology (sector of Psychology) and from 2012 as an assistant professor in Learning Disabilities. In 2018 she was appointed associate professor in Educational Psychology at the Department of Psychology. She has participated in a number of funded research projects and she has coordinated and participated as a presenter in seminars on learning disabilities and psychosocial adjustment addressed to mental health professionals and primary and secondary school teachers. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals and edited books and she has a large number of oral presentations in Greek and international conferences. She is a member of many international scientific psychology associations. She has served as a General Secretary of the Hellenic Psychological Society (2013-2017) and as coordinator of the School Psychology Section of the above society.

Her main research interests include motivation, cognitive and metacognitive strategies of typical children with and without learning disabilities, assessment of cognitive and metacognitive processes and psychosocial adjustment, screening and early identification of reading and comprehension difficulties, school engagement and intervention effectiveness.
