LABORATORY OF APPLIED CROSS-CULTURAL AND SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

The Laboratory of Applied Cross-Cultural and Social Psychology was established in 2019 as a successor to the Center for Cross-Cultural Psychology, continuing the tradition of Greek cross-cultural research shaped by pioneering scholars such as Harry Triandis and James Georgas. It is affiliated with the Department of Psychology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and serves research and teaching needs in the fields of Cross-Cultural and Social Psychology.

The Laboratory’s activities are organized around five core pillars: conducting research on culture, acculturation, diversity, and intergroup and interpersonal relations; training students and researchers in cross-cultural methodology and the use of culturally informed psychometric instruments; providing professional development for practitioners working with culturally diverse and minority populations; designing and evaluating interventions aimed at promoting positive intergroup relations and addressing prejudice, discrimination, and racism; and strengthening university–community links through open scientific events and collaborative initiatives.

Its specific objectives include the development of research and educational activities in accordance with ethical principles in psychology; meeting teaching and research needs at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels; fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond NKUA; organizing scientific events; producing empirical publications and specialized educational material; collaborating with academic and community partners in Greece and abroad; and contributing empirically grounded policy recommendations on issues related to culture and diversity.

The Laboratory operates under the supervision of the Department of Psychology, with the participation of faculty members, special teaching staff, doctoral candidates, graduate and undergraduate students, and external collaborators.
