ATHENA XENIKOU

Dr. Athena Xenikou is an Assistant Professor in Work and Organizational Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She is a graduate of the Department of Psychology of the University of Crete, and was awarded her PhD by the Faculty of Science of the University of London-Department of Psychology, University College London (UCL). During her doctoral studies, she was employed as a Statistics and Lab Demonstrator at UCL and Statistics Tutor at City University, London, UK. In 1997 she was employed as a Research Fellow by the Department of Marketing at London Business School working for the Future Media Research Program. She served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Social and Organizational Psychology at the Department of Psychology of the University of Thessaloniki. In the academic year 2013-2014, she was employed as a limited-term Assistant Professor by the Department of Psychology at Western University, Canada.

Her research has been published in high quality international journals including the Journal of Vocational Behaviour, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, Human Relations, Frontiers in Psychology, International Journal of Human Resource Management, The Journal of Managerial Psychology, and British Journal of Psychology. Her co-authored book with Prof. Adrian Furnham titled ‘Group Dynamics and Organizational Culture: Effective Workgroups and Organizations’ (Macmillan/ Palgrave) has been published in 2013.

She is a Chartered Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, as well as full member of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, the European Association of Social Psychology, and the Hellenic Psychological Society.

Her research concerns the impact that leadership and organizational value priorities exert on how well employees perform their jobs and whether they are committed to and identify with their employing organization. Her research interests include leadership, organizational climate/culture, motivation, work engagement, employee well-being, creativity at work, and organizational commitment/identification.
