Vassilis Pavlopoulos graduated from the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology (major in Psychology) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1992. He pursued his doctoral studies on a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and received his PhD in Social Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1998, with honors. His doctoral thesis focused on parental perceptions of children's personality.
Between 2000-2004 he worked as a teaching and research scientist in the Department of Psychology at the University of Crete, and in the Department of Primary Education at the University of Patras. He subsequently joined the Department of Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, serving successively as Lecturer, Assistant Professor (2009), and Associate Professor (2015) of Cross-Cultural Psychology. In 2021, he was promoted to Full Professor of Cross-Cultural Social Psychology. He is also Director of the Laboratory of Applied Cross-Cultural and Social Psychology.
His research interests and publications focus on intergroup relations, acculturation, resilience processes among immigrant and refugee youth, ideologies of cultural diversity, perceived discrimination and beliefs about justice, the cross-cultural study of values, and correlates of political behavior.
In addition to his teaching and research work, Vassilis Pavlopoulos is coordinator of the Internal Evaluation Committee and a member of the Undergraduate Program Committee of the Department of Psychology. He is also a member of the Executive Council of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP), serving as Regional Representative for Europe (2026–2030), a board member of the Hellenic Psychological Society (2022–2027), and coordinator of its Cross-Cultural Psychology Division (2017–2027). Previously, he served as scientific coordinator of the Internship Committee of the Department of Psychology, Associate Editor of Psychology: The Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society (2015–2019), and coordinator of the HPS Social Psychology Division (2007–2015). He serves as a consulting editor and reviewer for international journals and as a registered evaluator for the National Academic Recognition Information Center and national research funding institutions. He has also served on the organizing and scientific committees of national and international conferences.
